What is a Fresh Heirloom?

A Fresh Heirloom is a keepsake for the 21st century -- a handmade item created from reclaimed materials that you can be proud to display in your home, office, or garden and pass on from generation to seventh-generation. Consider it historic and environmental preservation coupled with progressive social responsibility, sophisticated artfulness, and multi-faceted meaning!

Where do our recycled home decor and green gifts come from?

We make most items here in Pittsburgh from materials diverted from our local landfills.

Many products are collaboratively designed and created by the owner and her skilled family members! (Be sure to look for Mom's knitted plastics, Dad's custom lighting, Grandma's famous scrap-fabric bags, Papa's scrap-wood creations, and even napkin rings created from Great Grandma Baba's button collection.)

We are also proud to represent the work of Pittsburgh-based salvage artists Josh Andra, Dalenne Sauers, Alex Lobus, Matthew Gatto, Michelle Jenkins, JR Holtz, and Francy Jones. Additionally, we carry items produced by socially and environmentally responsible US cottage industries as well as recycled creations from fair-trade enterprises.

Why Green Gifts and Creatively Reused Furniture?

Reason #1: 82% of people would rather have a photo album as a gift than a store-bought item. This means they'd rather have something that MEANS something and makes them feel special.

Fresh Heirlooms can accommodate your special requests for custom projects, large and small.

Reason #2: Consumers prefer to purchase items that are manufactured under just conditions.

Fresh Heirlooms creates 50% of its merchandise in-store, while obtaining the rest from local and US artists or fair traders.

Reason #3: Transforming recycled items into creative home decor items, gifts, and furniture eliminates waste.

We strive to use 100% salvaged and recycled materials; new paints and finishes are always non-toxic and earth-friendly.
